oh, geez. since the menu taking me to this site doesn't automatically pop up when I'm online, I seem to forget all about it. But I have to say we don't seem to be getting the hang of it as a group. How do we get more invested and make it more meaningful? Mayabe we need a different avenue?

Help!

Well, I said I was going to upload the power point slide that I scanned, but I do not see the button to upload! I see how to upload a video, but not a file. Who knows how to do this?

May 25, 2010 Strategic Doing Power Point Slides

I am attempting to upload the power point slides that I scanned from Ed Morrison's Strategic Doing session held on May 25. In a separate post, I will upload my notes taken during Ed's presentation. [I was basically writing notes for my own benefit based upon the slides on the screen.]

The best advice that I can offer is to go to workforce3one.com and download Ed's work on Strategic Doing. I did this today and created my working notebook. The site provides a power point, strategic plan facilitators guide, strategic plan participants guide, an example action plan, and a white paper on strategic doing.

Strategic Doing

The past two days of participating in the Leadership Learning Network has been exceptional. Being a small group of directors, we had the opportunity to learn from the best in Strategic Doing---Ed Morrison. He provided us with a framework and an opportunity to participate in a strategic doing environment. We focused on developing our appreciative leadership skills, which really involves framing the problems and community issues into action items with solid deliverables. The second day, our fearless leader, Donna Cruddler, facilitated us through an action plan and a timeline. The two days were productive, and I believe that we will be successful in meeting our action plan deliverables. Thank you Ed and Donna for your leadership and all your great work in helping us to transform and shape our workforce system!!!

Question for Ed Morrison

Ed, when we first started this venture, whenever I would get on the blog or other internet sites, there was a column to the left that showed me the blog, my board's fb Notes page and my google calendar. All of a sudden that all disappeared. I think you mentioned this feature. Can you help me regain it when we meet at the end of the month?

Western Piedmont Board Retreat

Thanks to Sheila for inviting me to participate in her WDB retreat last month. Here's my flip video experiment--unfortunately, Metcalf kept his back side to the camera most of the time.

Busy Season

It seems that everyone has succumbed to Busy Season: plans, RFPs, contracting, etc. You know life in general. Anyway, just remember to enjoy life!

I check everyday for posts

Without success, I check for posts almost daily. I feel like a dork blogging only to myself, but it's very hard to remember what to do unless I keep practicing.

What's new? Ruby's going to retire
What's bothering me? Ruby's going to retire
How am I feeling? Depressed, because Ruby's going to retire

Where are you my little lost lambs?

Hi
Hoped I would see some action here someday
was that exercise with Ed Morrison (almost wrote Jim-must be thinking of the Doors!) for naught?
I wanted to remind you that the next meeting in Raleigh will be an update on how you are doing on socuial networking, having Ed take us thru strategic doing, looking at one stop possibilities (dreaming...) and selecting our out of state visit site/board and gathering the questions and aspects we want to ecplore when we get there

I am going to email everyone the site again and see what happens

I've Flipped

don't think i'll win any academy awards for this one--instead of making you see my face, thought I'd show you a scene from my home. I love flip video. Just have to get in the habit of using it.

Portland OR's of blogs

Here's a good example of a blog used by the Portland's Worksystems. Visit their blog.

They use video, and they are very skilled at using Twitter, as well. If you have a Twitter account you can follow them here.

They also used a youth organization to design their web site. These people get it.

Getting help with web design

Here are two other sites to explore if you are looking for an inexpensive web designer.

I mentioned elance when we were together recently. Guru is also a site that operates like elance.

Better yet, check out sortfolio. Its a really good site that enables you to see people's work and get their price range.

How quickly we forget

So, I actually do have a profile photo, but it's not showing up under followers--any advice?

Dana, A+ is the highest grade there is.

Dang, Dana, good job! I've put in a purchase order for a couple of flips but it's languishing in the E.C's box. So jealous--but you've shown what a great tool it is.

A couple of other folks have told me they've posted, but I don't see anything and Linda Parker is having trouble accessing. Ed, we may need a little more help from you before you can feel the love.

I tried posting a photo the other day and nothing happened so I need tips from David and Dana.

Video Flipping

Dana,
Not only are you the Teacher's Pet but you have surely set the bar for the rest to follow. I am determined to get a flip camera as soon as possible and began socially networking Turning Point WDB on the world wide web. Thanks Dana for the push.....

Flip VideoCam

I am trying to attach a video. Hope it works.

It is okay to laugh. Hollywood celeb I'm not.

Some tips on Facebook

This morning's Washington Post carries an interesting article: How to decline Facebook friends without offense.

NC Learning Network

This is wonderful, I believe with some trial and error this method of communication and outreach will make a difference for our network. I look forward to many more postings.

Not feeling the love :-(

I just sent out (again) e-mail invitations for folks to sign up. So far, only Dana, Shelia, and Carole have followed up. In blogging, like everything else, we learn by doing. Let's see if we can get folks to finish their assignment -- 1 blog post -- by the end of the weekend!

Using SlideShare

We did not have the chance to go through all the different tools available to you. One that I probably should have mentioned: SlideShare.

This site enables you to upload your PowerPoints to the SlideShare server in the cloud, so that others can view your slides. This is a good way for you to share your PowerPoints that you might use at your board meetings. It's also a good way to share the PowerPoints that you might get at a conference (like the upcoming NAWB meeting in DC).

Here's the article.

Why Use SlideShare As A Part Of Your Economic Development 2.0 Strategy?

If you are interested to see my SlideShare collection (called a "slidespace"), please follow this link.

If you like this idea, just create a new account for your WIB. That's your "slidespace" where you can keep your Powerpoints. And, of course, you can link SlideShare to your Twitter account.

Building a Facebook Page for your WIB

Here's an interesting article I came across. It might give you some ideas abotu how to use Facebook with your WIB. You might, for example, post a Facebook page for your WIB.

Or, you might consider focusing a Facebook page on a specific set of activities or initiatives. For example, you might build a Facebook page to communicate directly with manufacturers.

Remember one rule of Web 2.0: Connect everything to everything else. If you build a Facebook page, remember to post a link on your Home Page and include it in e-mail newsletters. Even add it to the signature lines of your staff e-mails.

Here's the article that prompted these thoughts:

HOW TO: Build a Facebook Landing Page for Your Business

Workshop Outcomes

I have learned to post today. A wonder in itself.
I have now officially completed the assignment...right behind Dana the "teacher's pet" :)

More Workshop Stuff

Still learning to connect with everyone.

Workshop Outcomes

I learned to post today. It was so easy.

What we have learned today

We, the dedicated real learners, are tackling the issue of social networking. Blogs, g-mail accounts, drop i.o., oh my!

We are slowly converting Linda Parker to the idea and soon all will follow.
